Large-Scale Drupal to WordPress Migration for a Global Knowledge Platform

Industry Tools: Drupal to WordPress Migration

Scope

  • 8,500+ posts published
  • Custom post types implemented
  • Extensive media files managed
  • Well-categorized content structure
  • 2,100+ active users on the platform
  • Figma-based theme for modern design
  • Client-friendly backend for easy management

Challenge

The client managed a global knowledge sharing portal on Drupal 7, containing a large volume of articles, media assets, and a complex taxonomy structure. The site had thousands of active users with different role based permissions. Beyond content migration, the client needed a more intuitive backend that would allow their editorial team to manage content independently without developer involvement.

Our Approach

  • Comprehensive Audit: We began with an in-depth analysis of all content types, user roles, and taxonomy structures in the existing Drupal setup.
  • Complete Data Migration: Migrated 8000+ posts, media files, and hierarchical categories to WordPress while preserving data relationships and integrity.
  • User Account Transfer: All active user accounts — including roles, access levels, and existing passwords — were successfully migrated to WordPress.
  • Custom Post Types & Filtering: Built advanced content structures using custom post types and filters to enhance frontend usability and backend manageability.
  • Design Implementation from Figma: Developed a fully responsive, pixel-perfect WordPress theme based on the client’s Figma design files.
  • Client-Friendly Backend: Delivered a simplified, intuitive admin panel with custom fields and guided workflows, enabling the client to manage all content with ease.
  • Performance & SEO: Optimized for fast loading, mobile responsiveness, and search engine visibility.
  • Training & Handover: Provided complete documentation and training so the internal team could confidently manage and scale their new site.

Results

  • Smooth migration: Content, media, and users were successfully transitioned without data loss.
  • Empowered client team: The custom backend design allows non-technical staff to manage all content efficiently.
  • Consistent user access: All roles and credentials remained intact, ensuring a seamless experience for existing users.
  • Accurate design: The site reflects the original Figma mockups with high fidelity.
  • Enhanced performance: The WordPress site is now faster, more scalable, and easier to maintain.
